Gills wait for new manager goes on

Gillingham fans will have to be patient for another couple of weeks to find out who their new manager will be.

It was revealed on Tuesday morning that Chairman Paul Scally had conducted all the initial interviews with the potential candidates, but will now hold a second round of interviews before making a decision on who will replace Andy Hessenthaler as manager.

The names apparently still in the frame are Steve Tilson, Keith Millen, Martin Allen, Peter Taylor and Paul Ince with former Gills coach Mark Robson out of the running after taking on the manager’s job at Barnet.

The delay on naming the new boss has been held up with certain candidates being away on holiday, but Scally remains optimistic that he will be in a position to name the new boss by the end of the month.

With the players set to return for pre-season training in early July, Gillingham are looking to have the new man in place by the end of June with the club to find out who they will face in the newly named Capital One Cup on Thursday morning, while the new league fixtures will be out at 9am on Monday morning.
